Dr. Emily Coleman has begun seeing patients at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She joins the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Dermatology as an assistant professor. Her practice is located on the second floor of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute in Little Rock. Patients must have a referral to see her.

Coleman specializes in complex medical dermatology. She treats patients with connective tissue diseases, hidradenitis suppurativa, psoriasis, and autoimmune blistering diseases. She also handles general dermatology cases, including acne vulgaris and atopic dermatitis. Her clinical focus includes cutaneous lymphoma and other significant skin conditions.

Sara Shalin, M.D., Ph.D., is the chair of the department. She welcomed Coleman to the team. Shalin said she is thrilled to have Coleman’s enthusiasm for patient care and education. Shalin noted that Coleman’s experience with complex cases will help the department provide thoughtful care to patients with serious skin disease.

Before arriving in Little Rock, Coleman worked at Tulane University in New Orleans. She held the title of assistant professor of dermatology there. She completed her residency at the University of Vermont. She earned her medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine in 2019.

During her time at Yale, Coleman worked as a research assistant. She published multiple studies in the field of onco-dermatology. Her undergraduate studies took place at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. She majored in sociology and anthropology. She was also a member of the women’s varsity soccer team and served as a resident assistant.

Coleman has a stated interest in teaching. She mentors residents and medical students as they apply for dermatology programs. She views education as a key part of her role at UAMS. The department will include her in its teaching and clinical rotations.
