ArcBest reported third-quarter net income of $51.659 million early Wednesday, a 31.5% increase from the same period in 2025. The Fort Smith-based shipping and logistics company also posted quarterly revenue of $1.21 billion, which rose 15.5% year over year.
Adjusted earnings per share reached $2.62, exceeding the consensus estimate of $2.51. Revenue also surpassed the expected $1.2 billion mark. The company attributed the financial lift to higher tonnage shipped and increased revenue per shipment.
Seth Runser, president and chief executive officer of ArcBest, stated that the results reflected the commitment of the company's people. He cited disciplined execution and continued momentum in the Asset-Light division as drivers of stronger profitability. Runser also noted ongoing savings from organizational simplification and efficiency improvements, alongside continued investment in technology.
The performance followed earlier signals from the company. In early September, ArcBest reported that pricing improved in July and August due to declining industry capacity. Tighter capacity, characterized by fewer available trucks and trailers, has resulted partly from a wave of bankruptcies in the trucking sector.
Bloomberg News reported on Oct. 28 that 221 trucking companies filed for bankruptcy in 2026. The report described this as an extension of a three-year spike at levels not seen in decades. This reduction in competition has allowed remaining carriers to maintain higher rates.
Bascome Majors, an analyst with Stephens Inc., observed that operating metrics accelerated for ABF Freight, ArcBest's largest subsidiary and a less-than-truckload carrier. In an investor note following the earnings report, Majors set a target price of $185 for ArcBest shares, which trade on NASDAQ under the ticker ARCB.
The share price closed at $134.48 on Monday and traded about 2% lower in morning activity. Over the past 52 weeks, the stock has ranged from $59.43 to $176.69. Majors estimates full-year net income per share for the company at $3.84, a figure well above the $2.85 per share recorded in 2025.
ABF Freight generated $798.613 million in quarterly revenue, up from $726.475 million in the same quarter of 2025. Operating income for that segment rose to $75.556 million from $70.162 million. The company noted that tonnage growth came from higher weight per shipment, a trend that partially offset a 3% drop in shipments per day.
Tonnage per day increased by 9% in the quarter. Revenue per shipment rose 14.2%, while billed revenue per hundredweight climbed 1.1%. Excluding fuel surcharge revenue, the revenue per hundredweight decreased in the low single digits.
The asset-light logistics segment saw quarterly revenue rise to $446.291 million from $355.969 million in 2025. Operating income for this segment swung to a profit of $12.454 million, reversing a loss of $1.595 million in the prior year period. ArcBest, founded in 1923, employs about 14,000 people across 250 locations.
