Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis confirmed on Monday that a shooting occurred at the St. Teresa Apartments complex, located just south of the downtown Brooksville courthouse. The incident resulted in one injured person and a damaged vehicle following a dispute between two acquaintances.

Deputies reported that the conflict likely began over a speaker before gunfire erupted. The suspect fired multiple rounds, striking one individual and hitting a nearby car. Authorities stated the attack was not random and involved parties who knew each other.

The victim contacted 911 from a location a few blocks away from the scene. Dispatchers initially recorded that the caller did not know the specific origin of the shots. Police later verified that the gunfire originated at the apartment complex and quickly secured the perimeter. Officials accounted for all involved parties within minutes of the first call.

Sheriff Nienhuis noted that the suspect was blind at the time of the shooting. He described the outcome as fortunate given the circumstances. "The person we have in custody, the person of interest, the suspect in this case, is actually blind, the one who did the shooting, so it is really fortunate that there weren't more injuries," Nienhuis said.

Authorities have taken the suspect into custody but have not yet released their name. The specific formal charges pending against the suspect have not been announced. Additionally, officials have not disclosed the victim's name or their current medical condition.
