Moviegoers waiting for news on the next James Bond actor received a public nod from Pierce Brosnan on Monday. The Irish actor, who portrayed the spy from 1995 to 2002, named Callum Turner as a strong candidate for the part in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Brosnan said he is now an audience member eager to see who takes on the role. He noted that all the actors currently being considered are people he admires. Turner, who appeared with Brosnan in the 2017 film The Only Living Boy in New York, stood out in his mind. Brosnan described Turner as having a strong voice, physique, and presence on film.
"Callum Turner is someone I’ve worked with, and he’s so strong," Brosnan said. "They all have a voice and a physique, and a presence on film. They all have longevity as actors, all of these young men."
The search for the new 007 is reportedly moving through final auditions in London. Jack Lowden, known for his role in Slow Horses, is another name frequently mentioned. Other actors previously linked to the role include Josh O’Connor and Jacob Elordi.
Brosnan offered simple advice to the eventual winner. He wished the next actor the best of life, strength, and courage. "I eagerly await to hear the news and the celebration of the next James Bond," he said.
Beyond the casting, Brosnan expressed high expectations for the direction of the next film. Denis Villeneuve, who directed the Dune movies, will helm the new entry. Brosnan praised Villeneuve as an iconoclastic director with visionary camera work. "I think we are going to be blown away," Brosnan said of the upcoming project.
