Baseball's top defensive honors went to two Chicago Cubs on Sunday night. Alex Bregman and Pete Crow-Armstrong collected the 2026 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, recognizing the club's superior fielding performance during the 2026 season.
Bregman, playing his first year with the Cubs, joins Ron Santo as the only third basemen in franchise history to receive the award. The 2026 statistical record shows Bregman finished with nine outs above average, placing him second among all third basemen behind Manny Machado of the San Diego Padres. Bregman also won the award previously with the Houston Astros.
Crow-Armstrong secured his second consecutive Gold Glove after a 40 home run, 40 stolen base season. The center fielder led Major League Baseball in outs above average with a total of 26. He also topped the league in FanGraphs defensive runs with 23 and Statcast fielding run value with 26, cementing his status as the league's premier defensive asset.
The Cubs fielded five National League finalists this year, a number matched only by the Toronto Blue Jays. Shortstop Dansby Swanson, left fielder Ian Happ, and right fielder Seiya Suzuki were also named as finalists last month. In the American League, Chicago White Sox second baseman Chase Meidroth earned finalist status.
The club's current tally continues a strong recent trend. The Cubs led Major League Baseball with six Gold Glove finalists in 2025 and claimed three of the awards that year. The five finalists in 2026 represent a continued high volume of defensive recognition for the organization.
The awards ceremony took place on Sunday, formally recognizing the individual defensive achievements that contributed to the Cubs' standing as the best defensive team in baseball.
