Heavy rain flooded streets across the Phoenix metro area on October 30, forcing rescue crews to pull drivers from trapped vehicles.
Phoenix Fire Department technical rescue units responded to a submerged roadway near 40th Street and Camelback Road. Authorities reported multiple people stuck inside their cars in the area. A video posted to the department's social media account showed two vehicles sitting in the floodwater. About eight rescuers worked on the scene, with some standing on top of a car and others wading in the water to assist the drivers.
Similar incidents occurred in neighboring cities. In Scottsdale, crews rescued one person from a vehicle near Hayden Road and McCormick Parkway. Scottsdale Fire Department officials said teams were checking a second vehicle that they had not yet been able to access. They noted that the water had not yet reached the roof of that car.
Rescue efforts also extended to the Terravita area north of Scottsdale. Crews attempted to help an older adult who remained inside a vehicle surrounded by several inches of water. Officials described the water level as low but sufficient to trap the driver.
Fire departments in Tempe also handled flood-related calls during the same timeframe. No deaths were reported in the initial updates from Phoenix, Scottsdale, or Tempe authorities.
