Utah enters Saturday's game as the final unbeaten team in the Big 12, a status secured by a 21-13 victory over Houston last week. The Utes are 7-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play. They face Cincinnati, which is 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the Big 12, at Nippert Stadium.
The matchup carries little history. This is only the second meeting between the programs. In 2025, Utah hosted Cincinnati and won 45-14. That result stands as the series' only prior data point.
Cincinnati arrived at this contest with momentum. The Bearcats started the season 4-0 before losing two straight games to Arizona and West Virginia. They rebounded with a win against then No. 8 Texas Tech. In that game, Cincinnati rushed for 255 yards while limiting Texas Tech to 172 passing yards. Running back Cole Tabb is coming off a 173-yard performance and will be a key target for the Utes' defensive game plan.
Utah coach Morgan Scalley noted that his team must value the football. He warned against the "soothing sounds of praise" that often follow a win streak. "Pressure's a privilege. There's pressure because you're winning," Scalley said. "We believe in what we do. We believe in the process and we got to keep it going though."
Quarterback Devon Dampier is the focal point for Utah's offense. Against Houston, he rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns, his highest rushing output since joining the team. This marked a departure from earlier seasons where he had fewer designed runs. Last year against Colorado, he gained negative eight yards on the ground. The Utes' playbook has included various personnel packages, but Dampier's dual-threat capability remains a variable the defense must account for.
Cincinnati coach Scott Satterfield praised the visitors. He called Utah a "solid team" and "certainly worthy of a top-10 ranking." Satterfield noted that Utah's defensive consistency has been a hallmark for years, while their offensive improvement has been notable in the last couple of seasons. He described the quarterback as "outstanding" and the running back as "strong, powerful, very fast."
The game kicks off at 1:45 p.m. MDT on Saturday. ESPN will broadcast the game on television, with a livestream available through the ESPN app for participating TV providers. Radio coverage will air on ESPN 700 AM/92.1 FM and KZNS 1280. The Cincinnati forecast calls for highs in the 60s throughout the contest.
Utah leads the series 1-0. If they win, they will return to Salt Lake City with a perfect season intact. Their next home game is scheduled for November 7 against BYU.
Cincinnati will travel to Houston after this weekend. Utah's schedule includes a home game against BYU, followed by road trips to Arizona and TCU, before a final home game against West Virginia on November 27.
