The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 103-87 on Wednesday, securing their second victory over the in-state rivals within seven days. The result extended the Clippers' losing streak to three games and pushed their record to 1-3.
Luka Doncic, who averages 36 points per game for the league lead, sat out due to lower back stiffness. He was the second straight night the Lakers played without him, marking the first back-to-back games of the season for the team. Star forward Ziaire Williams also missed the contest with left foot pain. Head coach JJ Redick described both rest decisions as precautionary.
The Lakers, now 4-1, spread the scoring load with six players reaching double digits. Quentin Grimes led the team with 23 points. Collin Sexton recorded 21 points off the bench, his highest total of the season, and hit four three-pointers. Matisse Thybulle added 15 points and four threes, while Austin Reaves contributed 16.
For the Clippers, rookie Keaton Wagler scored a career-high 21 points from the bench. The team played without starting forward Rui Hachimura, who suffered a left quadriceps strain. Hachimura faced his former franchise in the loss.
The Clippers had lost to the Lakers by eight points on Friday. The Clippers' front office has not yet announced a timeline for Hachimura's return. The Lakers will look to maintain their current pace as they continue their schedule.
