The New England Revolution improved to 18 wins, 10 losses, and 4 draws after defeating the New York Red Bulls 3-2 on Wednesday night in Foxborough. Dor Turgeman scored two goals for New England, while Dániel Gazdag provided the winning goal in the 83rd minute.
Turgeman gave the Revolution an early lead in the ninth minute. After a defensive error by New York, Turgeman struck a first-shot from 25 yards out, assisted by Carles Gil. The margin grew in the 46th minute when Turgeman tapped in a first-touch cross from Luca Langoni. The cross originated from a throw-in by Ilay Feingold and went past the diving Red Bulls goalkeeper, Ethan Horvath.
Gil finished the match with an assist and reached a career milestone. He became the eighth player in Major League Soccer history to record at least 100 regular-season assists. Brad Davis was the previous player to reach that mark in 2013.
New England now holds 58 points, placing them second in the Eastern Conference. They sit two points ahead of the Inter Miami CF. The Red Bulls hold 39 points and entered the match with a one-point advantage over Columbus in the final wild-card spot race.
The Revolution hold the all-time series lead against New York at 38 wins, 34 losses, and 17 draws. At home, the record stands at 29 wins, 7 losses, and 8 draws.
Both teams return to action on Sunday. The Red Bulls will travel to Nashville, while the Revolution will host Inter Miami CF.
