Jacob Misiorowski takes the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night with a chance to win the World Series. The team faces the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. A win for Milwaukee secures its first championship in franchise history.
The Brewers lost their chance to end the series Tuesday night. Tampa Bay erased a one-run deficit in the bottom of the 12th inning. Ben Williamson hit a walk-off single to cap a two-run rally. The loss snapped Milwaukee's eight-game winning streak in October.
Manager Pat Murphy said the adversity is part of the process. "When you're achieving something like this, it's going to have its adversity," Murphy said. "You just live with it, and if you're a competitor, you wake up tomorrow morning and come ready to play."
Cooper Pratt played a key role in Tuesday's loss. The 22-year-old rookie hit a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning. That hit gave Milwaukee a lead before the Rays scored twice to take the game. Pratt also collected three other hits in the loss.
Reliever Aaron Ashby pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in the game. Manager Pat Murphy pulled him from the game in the 11th inning with one out. Murphy said he wanted to protect Ashby's health for the series. "We've got to be mindful of your health, and we've got to be mindful of winning the whole thing," Murphy said.
Murphy confirmed that Misiorowski will start Game 5. The 24-year-old right-hander has posted short outings in his previous three postseason starts. He threw four innings in the NLDS and 4 1/3 innings in the NLCS. He lasted five innings in Game 1 of the World Series.
The Rays used five pitchers in Tuesday's win. Nick Martinez was the scheduled starter for Wednesday but threw no pitches. Bryan Baker and Ian Seymour each worked one inning. Cameron Booser recorded one out. Murphy said the Brewers would not use Misiorowski in a late-inning spot. "You can't blow that type of situation on a one-run lead on the road," Murphy said.
Aaron Ashby said the team is ready to return to the field. "That loss stinks," Ashby said. "But it's part of our story. I think the boys are fired up to get back in there Wednesday."
