Residents in Northeast Ohio have multiple options for weekend entertainment that blend holiday themes with local culture and cuisine. The events take place in Cleveland and Canton, with specific dates and times set for Friday and Saturday.

The Maltz Performing Arts Center in Cleveland’s University Circle will host a Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics on Friday at 8:30 p.m. The Listeso String Quartet will perform themes from horror films such as Psycho and Halloween alongside classical works. These include Camille Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre and Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain. The stage will be illuminated by thousands of flameless LED candles to create a specific atmosphere for the concert.

In Canton, the Stark County Fairgrounds will hold a Halloween Truck or Treat event from 12 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Admission to the fairgrounds is free for attendees. A couple of dozen food trucks will serve lunch and dinner during the event. Children can receive free candy, and a market of Halloween-themed creations will be available for purchase. A costume contest will also take place, inviting participants to wear their most terrifying outfits.

The Greater Cleveland Aquarium is hosting an after-hours family event called Pumpkins and Piranhas on Friday between 5:30 and 8 p.m. at its Flats West Bank location. The event allows children to view piranhas and sharks in a controlled environment. The last admission time is set for 7 p.m. on Friday.

The Canton Symphony Orchestra and the Players Guild of Canton will present a musical adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella, Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The performance, titled Jekyll & Hyde, features the characters singing at the Zimmermann Symphony Center and Umstattd Performing Arts Hall in Canton. Showtimes are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Musicians Jeremy McCabe and Max Schlenk will perform a Frank Zappa tribute at the BOP STOP in Cleveland’s Hingetown on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. The event, called Schlenk Zappa, marks the 60th anniversary of the release of The Mothers of Invention’s debut album, Freak Out!. The retrospective includes satirical and complex compositions from the late Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.
