The New York Jets prepare for a tough road trip with questions about their starting wide receiver.
Garrett Wilson is day-to-day following a head injury sustained Sunday in a 38-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. He was hit while making a catch on the Jets' second to last play. Safety Jeremy Chinn drew a penalty for unnecessary roughness, but Wilson stayed on the field for the final Hail Mary attempt. Head coach Aaron Glenn said Wilson reported to the team facility on Monday with lingering symptoms.
The injury adds to a three-game losing streak for the Jets. They face the heavily favored Kansas City Chiefs on the road this weekend.
There is good news at running back. Breece Hall is expected to return after missing five games with a quadriceps injury. Glenn said Hall is trending in the right direction and will be in the lineup. The team has limited his practice for two weeks to manage the risk of further injury.
Braelon Allen has filled the void in Hall's absence. He has started five games and rushed for 504 yards. That average of 5.0 yards per carry places him second in the NFL over that span, behind only Tampa Bay's Bucky Irving, who has 548 yards.
Glenn said both Hall and Allen will see time on the field. He declined to provide details on how they will split the workload. The coach also dismissed trade rumors surrounding Hall, who signed a three-year, $43.5 million contract this offseason. Glenn called Hall one of the team's better players and confirmed he will remain in New York.
Wilson leads the Jets with 43 receptions, 527 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. If he sits, Adonai Mitchell and rookie Omar Cooper Jr. can step in. Mitchell had a career-high 147 yards last week, and Cooper has two games with over 100 receiving yards. The defense may also get a boost as rookie David Bailey and Joseph Ossai are expected to return from injuries.
