Olivia Rodrigo is releasing her first Christmas song on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. The single, titled “take me home (4 christmas),” marks a new genre for the artist, who previously focused on pop-rock ballads. She announced the release on Instagram, writing that fans could preorder the track immediately.
A new music video will premiere alongside the song. The visual features Rodrigo alongside actress Cynthia Nixon and “Saturday Night Live” cast member Ben Marshall. The video adds a visual component to the release that was not previously announced for the single.
Rodrigo wrote the song with collaborators Dan Nigro and Amy Allen. Nigro also produced the track. This follows the recent release of a remix of “expectations” featuring Chappell Roan, which became the highest peaking all-female collaboration on the Billboard Hot 100 this year. That remix also pushed Rodrigo’s third studio album, “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,” back to the top of the Billboard 200.
Physical copies of the new holiday single are available for preorder. An exclusive 7-inch vinyl and cassette can be purchased on Rodrigo’s website. Target will also carry the vinyl, with copies hitting store shelves on Friday. The digital release occurs three hours before the vinyl becomes available in physical stores.
The release arrives while Rodrigo is on her The Unraveled Tour. The tour has sold more than 1 million tickets worldwide. A press release stated that the tour has broken several venue records. The holiday single serves as a new entry point for fans during the touring cycle.
