Dave Bautista now weighs 250 pounds, a 20-pound gain in muscle he disclosed on Instagram this week. The post, which featured a "250" sticker and a God of War T-shirt, confirms the physical transformation required for his upcoming role as Kratos. This update follows a previous reveal two months ago, when Bautista noted he had resumed weight training but still needed time to reach peak condition.

The casting change stems from an injury to original star Ryan Hurst. Hurst tore his bicep on set, requiring surgery that threatened to push production into 2027. Prime Video replaced Hurst with Bautista in August to keep the schedule intact. Consequently, the production must reshoot all scenes previously filmed with Hurst using Bautista as the lead.

Filming began in Vancouver in February, but the reshoots add complexity to the schedule. The series adapts the two most recent God of War video games. The narrative centers on Kratos raising his ten-year-old son, Atreus, played by Callum Vinson. Their journey involves spreading the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye, while battling deities from the Norse pantheon.

Prime Video has ordered two seasons of the show, which will shoot back-to-back. The logline describes the dynamic between father and son as Kratos attempts to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human. Bautista is currently working on other projects, including Road House 2 and the Highlander reboot.

The physical demands of the role drove Bautista to intensify his training regimen. His previous statement indicated a gradual approach, but the recent weight gain suggests he is now in the final stages of preparation. The production team is moving forward with the reshoots to align with the original release timeline.
