President Donald Trump will campaign in Iowa and Kansas on Sunday, two days before voters cast ballots in the midterm elections. The White House confirmed the president will hold two rallies to support Republican candidates in both states.

The Iowa stop is scheduled for 2 p.m. Central at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque. The Kansas event will follow at 9 p.m. Central at the Salina regional airport. Trump originally planned to skip the trips but decided to proceed at the last minute.

These are key battlegrounds for the Senate. Republicans must win both seats to maintain their majority in the chamber. A recent Marist poll shows Iowa Democratic candidate Josh Turek leading Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson by three points. In Kansas, Democrat Adam Hamilton has taken a narrow lead over incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said he is confident in the Republican ticket. "I’ve seen the voters on the ground. I’m telling you, the polls are wrong. They’re inaccurate. They’re underrepresenting Republicans," Johnson said. Trump won Iowa in three previous elections and Kansas in two.

The last time Iowa sent a Democrat to the Senate was 2008. Kansas last sent a Democrat to that body nearly a century ago. A Quinnipiac poll places Trump’s current approval rating at 34 percent.
