Three sharp, claw-shaped blades sat inside a carry-on bag at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday.

Transportation Security Administration officer Douglas Linn identified the object while reviewing X-ray images at the checkpoint.

Linn said he saw the distinct features and immediately flagged the bag for a physical search.

"I was amazed, and even more so when it came out of the bag," Linn said.

He added that he had never seen such an item during his two years with the agency.

Colleague Dennis Oishi, the property search officer, retrieved the item from the luggage.

The object resembled a hybrid of the movie character Wolverine and Freddy Krueger.

The passenger admitted he was unsure if any sharp objects were in the bag when Oishi asked.

After the officer removed the claws, the traveler voluntarily abandoned the prop at the checkpoint.

Supervisory TSA officer Ann Rhoades described the find as one of the most unusual items in her seven years of service.

"Obviously, there was," Rhoades said regarding the passenger's uncertainty about the bag's contents.

The incident required no further action beyond the standard checkpoint procedures.
