Second grade students at Pass Christian Elementary School held a classroom science showcase on October 31, running a series of Halloween-inspired experiments for an audience that included pre-K through second graders, their families and school staff. The presentations were part of the school's explore gifted class work.
The event served as the class's first public speaking and performing arts presentation. Gifted Education Teacher Jane Bunn said each presentation paired the scientific process with creative elements, giving students practice in public speaking and performance. In the gifted program, students work on research, communication skills and teamwork.
"I was so proud to see them be able to perform in front of their peers," Bunn said. "They're taking all those skills that we work on in the gifted program and they're putting it all together."
The source did not identify the specific experiments the students demonstrated, nor did it provide enrollment figures for the gifted program or the number of students who presented. Pass Christian Elementary serves students in pre-K through second grade.
