A routine school technology alert put a Florida teenager in handcuffs on Friday, the same day President Donald Trump was scheduled to speak at Daytona Beach's Ocean Center.

Daytona Beach police said Mainland High School received a Gaggle Alert, a program that flags possible threats of violence or danger on school devices. The alert showed that the 15-year-old had typed "how to kill the president" into her district-issued OneDrive account, followed by the words "im just kidding." Investigators wrote in the arrest affidavit that the second phrase showed she understood how the first would be read. "Her comments were made the same day the President is due to arrive," the affidavit reads.

When an officer moved to detain her, she tried to leave his office, then kicked and swung her arms to keep from being handcuffed, police said. The officer brought her to the floor and took her into custody. Her guardian later told police she does not have access to weapons at home.

She faces three counts: threatening to kill or cause bodily harm to another, obstructing police, and resisting an officer without violence.
